ICC Player of the Month 2022
India’s star hitter Virat Kohli has been named ICC’s October 2022 Men’s Player of the Month after giving outstanding performances in the game’s shortest format. Virat Kohli is also celebrating his first Player of the Month award after recording 205 runs with the bat. On the other hand, Pakistani all-round veteran Nida Dar has won the ICC Player of the Month for October 2022.
SC maintains a 10% quota for SAP
The Supreme Court of India has upheld the 103rd amendment to the constitution providing for a 10% quota for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) among non-reserved categories. Beneficiaries can benefit from the government admission quota as well as private, government and unsubsidized jobs.
India’s first floating literacy camp
The India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) organized India’s first floating financial education camp at Dal Lake with an initiative called ‘Niveshak Didi’. Notably, India still struggles to spread financial literacy across demographics as a large portion of the population still resides in rural areas.
Rituraj Awasthi appointed Chairman of the Law Commission of India
The Indian government appointed the chairman and members of the Law Commission more than two and a half years after its constitution. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju took to Twitter to announce the appointment of retired High Court Chief Justice Rituraj Awasthi as Chairman of the Law Commission of India .
Launch of the first private rocket in India
Vikram-S, India’s first privately developed rocket, is set to launch from November 12-16, 2022. The announcement was made by Hyderabad-based space startup Skyroot Aerospace. Skyroot Aerospace’s inaugural mission, named “Prarambh” (The Beginning), is expected to carry three customer payloads.
PM Modi launches G20 logo, theme and website
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India’s upcoming G20 Presidency is a matter of pride and a great opportunity for the country in its 75th year of independence. Prime Minister Modi made the remarks after unveiling the logo, theme and website for India’s G20 Presidency. India will assume the chairmanship of the G20 from the current chairmanship of Indonesia from December 1, 2022.
2022 ICC Hall of Fame
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the latest legends to join the prestigious list of cricketing greats that make up the ICC Hall of Fame. Following a voting process that included existing Hall of Fame members, media representatives as well as senior FICA and ICC officials, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Charlotte Edwards and Abdul Qadir were inducted.
Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary
The Tamil Nadu government has declared an area in the Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri Reserve Forests as the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary, comprising an area of 686,406 km², will form part of a protected landscape contiguous to the forests that currently constitute the Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary which is shared between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
2023 Women’s World Boxing Championship
India will host the Women’s World Boxing Championships in 2023 in New Delhi. The decision came two years after the country was stripped of the rights to host men’s events for failing to pay required fees to the world governing body.
India’s first national repository of life science data
Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh has unveiled India’s first national repository of life sciences data, generated from publicly funded research in the country. The Indian Biological Data Center (IBDC) which is established at the Regional Biotechnology Center has a data storage capacity of four petabytes.
