Is it impossible to have hope? – The Island

Dance is an art, they say, and it could only be developed by an artist with a true artistic mindset. He must have an innovative spirit – finding new ways of doing things and doing them differently
According to Stephanie Kothalawala – an extremely talented dancer herself – Haski Iddagoda, who has captured the hearts of dance enthusiasts, could be touted as a dancer just above that realm.
Stephanie
had a conversation with Haski last week and sent us the following interview:
* How did you start your dancing career?
Believe me, it was a girl who worked with me in the office who persuaded me to take up dancing, in a big way, and involved me in dance-related events. At first, I had no idea what dance was, on stage. I was a little shy, but decided to take up the challenge and made my debut at an event held at Bishop’s College.
* Did you take dance lessons to refine your movements?
Yes, of course, and the beginning took place in 2010 – during dance classes held at the Colombo Aesthetic Resort.
* What made you choose dance as a profession?
Everything came to my mind when I watched the dance programs on TV. After my first dance program, on a reality TV show, dancing became my passion. It gave me happiness and freedom. Also, I got to know so many important people across the country through dancing.
* How is your dance program evolving these days?
Due to the current situation in the country, everything has been reduced. However, we are doing some programs, and when the scene returns to normal, I’m sure there will be a lot of dance events.
* What are your achievements in the dance scene so far?
I won a Sarasavi award. I believe that my greatest achievement is the repertoire of movements that I have as a dancer. Being a top dancer isn’t easy…it’s hard work. Let’s say my greatest achievement is making a name for myself as a dancer.
* What is your opinion on reality TV shows?
Well, reality TV shows give you the opportunity to show off your talents – as a dancer, singer, etc. It’s an opportunity for you to strike the big blow, but you have to be talented, to be recognized. I danced with actress Chatu Rajapaksa on Hiru Mega Star Season 3 on TV.
* Do you have your own dance team?
Not yet, but I’ve played with many dance troupes.
* What is your favorite dance style?
I like the style of my first coach, Sanjeewa Sampath, who was seen at Derana City of Dance. His style is called lyrical hip-hop. You need body flexibility for this type of dance.
* Why do you like this type of dance?
I like to present a beautiful dance number, something different, after studying it.
* How would you describe the dance?
For me, dancing is a precious exercise for the body and for giving happiness to your mind. I am not talking about the kind of dance that is done at a wedding or a party, but if you learn the art of dancing properly, it will definitely bring you a lot of fun, excitement and happiness. also. I like to dance.
* Have you taught your dancing skills to others?
Yes, I gave my expertise to others and they benefited a lot. However, some of them seem to have forgotten my contribution to their success.
* As a dancer, what was your biggest weakness?
Say, trusting people too much. In the end, I face obstacles and cannot achieve the final product.
* Are you a professional dancer?
Yes, I work as a professional dancer, but due to the current situation in the country, I now want to focus on my own fashion and costume design business.
* If you hadn’t started dancing, what would your career have been like today?
I trained in hotel management, so, probably, I would have been involved in the hotel business.
* What are your future dance projects?
To be Sri Lanka’s No. 1 dancer and share my experience with the younger generation.
