HONOLULU – The Oahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) has seen a substantial decrease in the number of active infected inmates since early August. The Department of Health (DOH) has started the fourth round of follow-up testing at the OCCC, to ensure the virus remains under control in the prison population.
A new positive COVID-19 test result from an inmate was received today. There are currently no inmates hospitalized. A further positive result from OCCC staff was also received today.
Several other inmates and staff have recovered from the virus. Inmates with active COVID-19 cases decreased from 18 to 14. The number recovered increased from 274 to 278. PSD staff with active COVID-19 cases decreased from 43 to 40 and recovered staff increased from 50 to 54.

- Inmate releases ordered by orders of the Supreme Court of Hawaii (HSC) are underway. The list of names / criminal case numbers for defendants released on 8/9/20 and 9/9/20 by order of the HSC court is attached.
- All transportation to court from all Oahu facilities is suspended until Friday, September 18. Video hearings will always be considered to the extent possible and to the extent permitted by law. PSD is in constant contact with the judiciary to ensure the safety of all staff and detainees involved.
Staff continue to practice recommended precautions for the health and safety of the public, our staff and inmates under our supervision, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). All facilities have received PPE and regularly maintain an inventory of PPE for continued distribution to staff, as recommended in the pandemic plan. Each employee was given multiple face masks and at the OCCC, employees were given a face shield for additional protection. Face shields will be distributed to all staff in other establishments. Staff have access to gloves and other protective supplies, available throughout the facility.
